I am angry at our lack of leadership, but vowing to sit out an election is what brought us Trump. It will take years to build a viable third party. Sit out elections at our collective peril.

This is a great place to leave. Thinking we can fix anything with this particular Democratic party is delusional.

I'm furious that the Dems did not hold out for a clean CR. That said, the lack of understanding of nuance in the below comments is sad. The unfortunate truth, which Schumer etal should have communicated to us earlier, is that a gov't shutdown would have allowed rump and mush to fire more gov't employess more quickly without oversight or recourse to the courts. I personally wish they had gone with the shutdown rather than the yes vote that gives rump more purse power, and I do think Schumer still has at least one foot in the past of Washington politics, but the idea that they don't care is childish and myopic. The voters put them & us in this position. Yes they need to pivot big but be constructive. Otherwise you sound like the other side who can't understand multi-layered issues and blames the nearest scapegoat.

I concur with you on this! He needs to step aside. I don’t see a way that this helps American people!

I’m so angry, I’m numb.

I emailed Schumer (my senator, along with Gillibrand) my disgust.

“Congratulations. You just voted in favor of fascism. The shutdown would have been temporary. Your rolling over for the GOP cost us our democracy.”

I also sent Paul Tonko, my wonderful House Representative, a thank you email. He’s been the real deal for decades.

Excellent admonition of Schumer & the Democratic Party! I love how relevant you made my favorite comic strip to the current situation.

The photo of the young protesters reminded me of how many times Democrats have ignored or dismissed the pleas of our youth, which is a big reason so many of them have turned away from the party.

Chuck Schumer is so ineffective he brought an avocado and a beer can to protest trump. His smirk and how often he meets with trump and the money that he makes off of trump says it all. He's a traitor to the people who elected him and the American public.

The Democratic Party is fighting, against us.

They are bought and paid for by Wall Street, and their incrementalist platform is intended to buy time for the bourgeoisie to develop the means of automation and the AI that will make the protests and strikes of the labor movement irrelevant. Their end game is to sabotage the development of a socialist movement at any cost.

They share the dream of the Dictatorial Presidency with the Republicans. Obama and Biden were puppets of the security state and the MIC. A fully empowered Dictator-President will fully serve The Pentagon and Wall Street. The Democrats and the Republicans are the enemy of the people, and neither party can be redeemed.

They are fighting a War of Attrition against the working class, and they know what we are unwilling to accept, that our window of opportunity is closing.

If we do not seize the means of production before the bourgeoisie fully automates the supply chain and mass industry then we risk losing everything. A horrifying post-capitalist hegemony will take root that will be immune to the general strike and the protests of resistance, because they will have no need for workers, our children will be lucky to make a living scavenging old electronics and selling the heavy metal components.

Action must be taken immediately if we are to have any chance at stopping them. If we are to have any future at all.

Totally correct. We on the REAL Left need to Unite our organizations. I'm a member of several. I recently joined this one:

workersstrikeback.org

I'm in Seattle. We need to spread it across the US. We need to educate folks about the correct definitions of the words used to confuse and obfuscate facts. Thanks.

I heard Chuck Schumer be interviewed by Chris Hayes on MSNBC. Schumer said that without this bill, Trump would’ve been able to shut down agencies and fire federal workers without any blockage from Congress being possible. According to Schumer, that the constraints in the bill would require that there would be limits to what could be done. This was an argument that I had never heard before and I did not hear rebuttal from Chris Hayes. But the fact that AOC was upset with Schumer’s action was enough for me to wonder what the heck was going on. AOC seems to be on top of everything all the time.

Everyone,

Indivisible will host a March on April 5. They want people to come to DC if possible. There will be sister marches around the country AND one huge presence is more impactful. Wherever you are, do whatever you can to clear your calendar and show up that day. We need to be out in greater numbers than ever in history. Sign up at Indivisible. Tell your friends and hopefully, every pro Democracy writer and organization will advertise this. Thank you. ... And, yes, Schumer isn't the person for the moment. I couldn't keep back the tears when I read the end result yesterday.

I suspect a number of politicians from both sides have gotten too comfortable with the opportunities to gather power, make money & bask in public attention. They did not sign up to be fighters with integrity & to make sacrifices. We need more AOCs, more Bernies & more Jasmine Crocketts.

I don’t usually disagree with you but I do not agree with a throw the baby out with the bath water approach. It’s like eating our own babies to reject people who have a hard job and make a judgment we disagree with. Republicans lack integrity but Schumer does not! Stop this campaigner we don’t have enough good senators and reps as it is.

Schumer has zero integrity. He supports the slaughter of Palestinians. He conflates objections to murder/genocide with antisemitism! He's a ZIONIST! Look up this history. Look up his history.

I am none of the above. I'm also a female. Ask questions? I have studied this history. Mr. Schumer is behind much of this antisemitism-speak that you speak about here. He is trying to criminalize free speech around this genocide with his own bias. He is conflating antisemitism WITH his own Zionist views. The entire US Congress has done this. Read up!

We have needed a third party for a long time—way before now. Call it progressive or whatever but we need a Party that actually represents the majority of US. The stream of consciousness toward LGBTQ+ long ago went forth—we have generations of people who no longer see sexuality as a threat—we also have generations of voters who see firearms as a threat because of school shootings and never feeling safe in America. We have virtually three generations of women who see feminism as the radical idea that women are people, two generations of displaced factory workers and farmers, generations of people wanting higher education but can’t afford it, unfunded disabled, negative regard for Veterans, cancellation of Senior Citizen’s needs hoping they’ll just die, hospitalization and healthcare overpriced—the list is long. Democrats haven’t forcefully addressed the needs of the “working party that can’t find work and can’t afford not to” for a long time. Meanwhile, the people we vote into office begin with little and end up millionaires. America, we have great and grave problems.

I generally agree but for what little it’s worth, I would respectfully argue that the right controls the narrative and I don’t think they would have had to own a shutdown. A huge problem here is that you have a general population of people who grew up on foxnews and their idea of discourse is a screaming match where agreement is unheard of and the only point of engaging is to „own the libs.“ they don’t realize that when those on the left scream it’s because we see consequences and are freaked the f€&@ out

There is Zero LEFT in the Democratic Partiers. That is a right-wing talking point, "the socialist, democrat (ic) left..." tRump said it a lot. His poorly educated base don't believe in dictionaries apparently?

Ignore-ant people accept these lies.

THE real left isn't in either of these capitalist regimes. (RNC, DNC).

BTW: I'm not a snob. I read a lot every day. ✌️
