Qasim, on Jan. 19th Trump said, “It’s only because THEY RIGGED THE ELECTION that I’ll be your president representing you there. (at the Olympics and World Cup.) THEY RIGGED THE ELECTION and now we won so I’m going to be your president for the Olympics and for the World Cup.” Do you think JOURNALISTS should investigate this admission?

I'm tired of being told I have to subscribe to this or that publication starting at $5 a month. Where do you folks think this money will come from? Ground news? I guess you writers on Substack think we have nothing else to do or spend money on.

This is how the future of journalism is getting lost. What about people like me who can't afford all these Substacks?

Would you be willing or able to provide your thoughts and comments on some or all of these Executive Orders from the last 2 days.

Feels like we are in major trouble. For example, if I’ve read the capital punishment act correctly it seems like the death penalty will now be forced unfairly upon immigrants AND should anyone defend themselves or another against a dirty cop and that cop is killed in the process the death penalty could be applied. I’m literally reading these EOs and I’m scared of what they COULD mean and do mean. I’d love to see you break these down.

Yes - my article today is actually breaking down each of these. Will be out later today.

Bezos openly commits to "storytelling", which runs the gamut from fairy tails to expose. Which end of the spectrum do we expect from a Blue Origin/worker exploiting billionaire?

Throughout history autocrats have employed storytellers to burnish their shady reputations. Throughout history troubadours and jesters have slyly undermined self congratulatory "leaders". The yin and yang of rumor, gossip and grapevines.

These days ordinary people must exercise the greatest vigilance against malice and lies. The current party in power is rich with MALICE

So can Trump really eliminate birthright citizenship with an EO? I heard he at least tried.

Expand full comment

I posted elsewhere that after taking an oath to uphold the Constitution one of his first acts was an EO that tries to undermine the 14th Amendment to the Constitution which protects birthright citizenship. He has no authority. At least not as a President. If SCOTUS makes him a dictator that's a different convo.

After the coverage of Musk's salute and the two op-eds by Thiessen and George Will today, I finally canceled my subscription to the Washington Post. Very painful, but at this point we must be realistic, and I have no more room for dishonesty in my life.

Congrats on making this decision, honestly for your own well being too. Hope to earn your trust and support ongoing here!

Maybe the WP would have more readers if seemingly EVERY SINGLE article weren’t hidden behind a paywall. So much for the democratic responsibility of journalism to inform the public.

Also true. It's so ridiculous given they're billionaire owned and don't actually need to paywall their content. Also, I'm not billionaire owned and I refuse to paywall my content. For me, accessibility is key if we want to build a healthy democracy.

I really respect what you're doing. I'm just a loud mouth behind a keyboard but people like you are the real deal. Keep up the good work.

Totally enjoying what you post…just getting started on Substack and phasing out of META platforms. Keep up the good work! It is much appreciated.

Thank you, Diana. Welcome, wonderful to have you join this growing community!

Thank you for your excellent work and relevant information. As you know, many of us are relying on you and other Substack truth-tellers as a lifeline to what is really happening.

Also, by now I’m sure you know, not only is fb scrapping fact-checking, they’re making “friend” connection with 🍊 & JD a default matter. I’m no longer on Meta platforms, but read of folks who woke up today with 2 new “friends.” Big #s, ya know….

PS: Now reading further accounts. Apparently, if someone followed the official POTUS site under Biden, it automatically switched to T.

Grateful for your support. Meta is actively suppressing my content as well. I'm getting emails and DMs regularly from my subscribers. I'm encouraging folks to subscribe here on substack, and so far so good, but a lot of work yet to do. Grateful to have this community!

Yes, I've been blocking like it's my JOB.

I subscribed, but I wanted to pay five dollars a month rather than the full $60. I think I was charged the full $60. I can afford it, but I just have a crowded inbox and I give you a lot of closets so I have to be judicious about it.

It should be only $50, not $60. But it's an easy fix. Here are instructions: https://support.substack.com/hc/en-us/articles/360044105731-How-do-I-change-my-subscription-plan-on-Substack

Thank you for your gracious support!

But what about the bait and switch?

Expand full comment

Thank you, Qasim. I have just subscribed at the "Vantage" level (the only one that's discounted). I have an Israeli friend (lives in south Florida, as I do) who insists that the Israelis are right, and victims, and that all of Hamas should be killed, and doesn't care what happens to other Palestinians, although ideally, he prefers that innocent civilians not be killed, and I have offered to gift him a subscription (50% off gift subscriptions) unless he tells me that he is completely devoted to his views, and nothing anyone says could change them. He has essentially told me versions of that already -- he considers his sources to be unimpeachable --, so I hope that if that's how he feels, he's honest enough to save me the $50.

He considers "rashid" to be dishonest and entirely wrong.

If his sources were "unimpeachable" than Netanyahu would not have banned journalists from reporting on what he's been doing in Gaza.
