Since we're talking about voter supression. I don't know if you know this. But voter supression is the reason diaperdon won in the first place.

Good discussion. Just one point of info Kendi’s book is not the first bio of Malcolm in 30 years. Manning Marable wrote an extensive one about 15 years ago that is worth reading too (although some found it jarring).

I believe its stated as the first in 30 years specifically for youth. I haven't read Marable's but sounds like I should add it to my reading list.

Thank, Qasim!!

This morning I read of the death Pope Francis. I do not follow any specific religions, but his death is frightening, especially as our fascist VP Vance visited him on the day previous to his death. Does anyone else think this is a bit strange? Apparently (not sure its true) Vance had the audacity to challenge the Pope on the Pope’s views on DEI, immigration, and other views. Did Vance upset the Pope resulting in his death? Is there a horrible scheme on the part of the ultra conservative catholics in the Vatican to replace Francis with an ultra-conservative one? Remember, Pope Francis has very vocal enemies in the conservative factions of the Catholic church in the US and elsewhere. Now I have NO idea any of this is true, and do not want anyone to start any “conspiracy theory”. Maybe I am wrong to even post these thoughts. It just seems, in the context of EVERYTHING Trump and the republicans are doing, fishy.

I doubt the intellectual giant Vance stirred anything in Pope Frances, except “Dear father in heaven, please get this loser out of here and stop his verbal vomitting? You are well known for your mercy.”

Good point- Politics is all contested terrain and the past exerts its leviathan foot on progress through liberal academics who are tenured to speak for the marginalized and vulnerable, so its advantageous for history to be (re)written simply and attractively for the youth.

Dr Ibram X. Kendi!! 😲🙏🏼👌🏼😎

He's so cool. I recently saw his documentary, "Stamped From The Beginning". So informative and highly recommended.

... and yes, the SAVE Act is essentially a newer version of a Jim Crow poll tax. Voter suppression - the only way Republicans know how to win elections. 😞
