On this week’s episode of The Qasim Rashid Show I welcome back Jamyle Cannon, the founder and Executive Director of The Bloc Chicago.
Jamyle started The Bloc in 2016 to reach kids who were unengaged by traditional after-school outlets. The Bloc engages youth with the sport of boxing to provide resources and opportunities to young people and their communities. Since its inception, 100% of The Bloc's fighters have graduated high school and earned acceptance into college.
We discuss:
ICC prosecution of war crimes
Strengthening communities through boxing, overcoming the 10 year mortality gap in neighboring Chicago zip codes, and what do you do when donors pull funding because you support a ceasefire and release of all hostages? (Yes this actually happened and we need to talk about it).
Funding public safety goes beyond more money for police
