I haven’t read all the comments but what I’ve read so far reveals the level of misinformation that many of you operate under. Read the Powell Memo and founding father James Madison, better yet start with Chomsky, Zinn, and Hedges and understand that the ruling class has NEVER intended for the masses to have a true democracy. “We the people” means “We the wealthy white patriarchal ruling class.” Period. When we all understand that we can better address how to deal with the ruling elites who divide and distract us from their intentions.
seems many are looking for a 'scapegoat' to explain the poor performance of the democratic campaign and the loss of presidency, senate, and likely congress. Reflecting on the campaign, I can identify a list of things that I believe might have improved Kamala's chances, but it wasn't my call to make. Unfortunately, those making the inappropriate comments about Muslims chosing not to support an administration who supports genocide, I say shame on you. Would any of us feel comfortable voting for, supporting anyone who participated in the genocide of our family members, friends or communities? If the answer is no, how can we expect someone else to behave in a manner that is not accpetable to us. I also got the impression that many of the angry comments made to your were from those lacking information on the actual statistics of who voted for which candidate. It would have helped if they had stopped to review the stats before lashing out. Muslim votes were not the deciding factor here and the TRUTH is Harris did not address key issues of importance to many American's ... and speaking for myself, I would have preferred to see her directly address the situation in the Middle East, I wanted to hear that she would immediately call for a permanent cease fire and that there be civilized negotiations moving forward. She lost my vote by ignoring this very important issue, and this is an issue that our young felt strongly about. The focus on womens reproductive rights appeared to be her primary focus, but obviously she or her advisers thought this a safe issues to focus on, just ignore the rest. THAT was a mistake.
First of all these asshats need to place the blame where it belongs. Squarely on the shoulders of the majority of racist ass white ppl who voted for trump both times. If these ppl didn’t exist in all their idiotic glory trump would have zero base. This is coming from a Muslim who voted for Harris not because I like her or the dems but because I understand that Trump is a fascist. Which is something his uneducated hoards of mostly white supporters do not.
It's Democrats, not the left. Democrats throw leftists in jail, just like the Republicans. Leftists do not support the western empire or Israel or are mislead into thinking the US are the good guys.
Exactly right! America is a conservative oligarchy. That’s why kamurderla Harris’ save democracy a schtick didnt resonate with voters.
Democrats and republicans are both branches of the conservative movement. The true left,
not hypocritical posers and closeted conservatives, is vilified and oppressed by the conservatives that run both parties. They should change our national bird to ostrich since even well informed intellectuals like the author continue to bury their head in the sand and ignore the true dichotomy of American and world politics. Conservative vs progressive.
And the democrats are perfectly happy to be in league with their political rivals but ideological allies in the Republican Party.
Pro death penalty.
Pro Corrupt Oppressive Partiaan Sadists.
Pro racism (as shown here)
Pro big business/okigarchy
Pro no accountability for crimes of the rich and powerful
Pro oppressing and criminalizing the poor.
The list goes on and on.
Pro terrorism charges for those protesting for human and environmental rights.
Republicans are sadists and proud of it.
Democrats are sadists and occasionally guilty about it.
Why would voters go for conservative life when they can have the real thing?
It makes no sense to blame a demographic that makes up little more than 1% of the population. That accounts for maybe 4 million people and only a quarter of that are actual voters. As of this writing, Harris is still down 11 million votes from Biden. That just doesn’t add up.
It’s patently false that Muslim voters single handedly cost the election. Especially considering Trump’s biggest voting blocs are white men that identify as Christians. I wonder how many of your critics fit that demographic?
People are punching down, not only because they can but, because it distracts them from having to take a good hard look in the mirror.
Our coalition needs to be better. We need to come back stronger and reject fascism and hate.
Thank you for everything you do, Qasim. Again, I’m sorry people are lashing out at you in such ugly ways. It’s uncalled for, no matter what.
Democrats can finger point, blame and make excuses. No time for that anymore, time to fight back against the Trump administration. MAGA is looking at this and is sneering and trolling at us. Let's not give them the satisfaction and get use back into one united unit to fight back against those draconian policies they are gonna enact. Get your friends, family and community to get together and organized for the battle ahead. Qasim, please don't be down, let's fight back and continue our path forward.
I don’t think the past year been “simply exercising their constitutional right to dissent.” These protests had and have a profoundly violent character. Where they weren’t violent, they were designed to be intimidating to Jews and go right up to the line of criminality. When you add these numbers to the number of Jews they scared the hell out of who voted for a R for the first time ever (not me, but I know plenty), what you get is a lost state. And not only Jews have noticed the nature and character of these protests and been put off. Now, maybe this is only an issue that affects Jewish and Muslim Americans and everyone else votes solely on inflation, I don’t know. But at the end of the day, if Hamas hadn’t attacked on 10/7, if foreign interests like Iran and Qatar hadn’t encouraged all this unrest for a year, would we still be in this place? I think no. So, F Hamas is where I end up. I don’t know what bad things are coming down the pike. I hope people of good conscience will try to help if Trump tries Muslim ban 2.0 or whatever else he’ll have going on, but I think it’s all going to be muddled now. Lots of people do think the protesters should be investigated to see how much foreign financing played a part. They do want University foreign contributions under a microscope. And the issues just don’t seem as clear as they were during the Muslim ban. At the very least you’re going to have a lot of “eh, I’ve got my own issues and causes I think are more important to spend my energy on.” A divider knows how to divide - by using fear and pitting groups against each other. And Hamas and the extremist character of the pro-Palestinian movement have made it so easy for him. (In the last year of protests, I never heard that side call for peace or dialogue). I remember this great picture from the airport Muslim ban protests of a Muslim man with a kid on his shoulders and a Jewish man with a kid on his shoulders and the kids were holding hands. Does that happen in today’s world? I don’t know.
They have been calling for peace many times. While resisting violent oppression and apartheid.
Your views are extremely inconsistent. Treasonous violent traitors founded the USA. And they are “hero’s”
The Boston Tea party wasn’t a party.
Guess you like to ignore history and pretend positive change doesn’t come with a cost.
Women didn’t finally get their right to vote acknowledged without violent protest and many many beatings by corrupt conservative police.
You are so uninformed.
Same for the US civil rights movement you pretend to honor.
“Violent” mass protests.
Same with getting us out of the illegal genicidal war in Vietnam.
South Africans escaped apartheid through violent resistance.
International law supports the right to self determination and violent resistance against those you oppress you and dent that right. Stop calling everyone you disagree with terrorists.
That’s the lie you keep telling yourselves - it’s deplorable. And usually racist or at least classist.
You are a bigot.
People like you are the reason conservatives maintain power.
You will trade away everyone else’s constitutionally protected rights for your own false sense of security.
So sad.
You will have a momentary twinge of guilt when the evidence of your oppression and atrocities are revealed for all to see. But quickly sell out for feeling safe. Remember BLM? Pathetic.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I hope you're reporting and blocking 🚫 the Islamophobes. Stay strong and know you are supported and appreciated 🙏🙏🙏
It’s unfortunate that human nature tends to cast aspersions on others in times of crisis. As a nation, I believe that we have lost resilience. We fret about things that, in the big picture, are pretty inconsequential. Social media will then amplify these fears: fears that trigger our self-preservation mode. We then react irrationally. I tend to agree that right wing media and religious organizations have been extremely successful in saturating news and internet with misinformation about crime, the economy, and that voting for a democrat is voting for the devil.
Can you provide the source of the chart of the vote broken down by religion for my reference when speaking with others? Showing the graphic of the data definitely validated your claims. It seems there is a serious post election conversation that has to happen in other religious circles. I appreciate and always look forward to your weekly show on Sirius Urbanview.
And btw it isn’t anti-Muslim or Islamphobic to criticize the uncommitted movement, or any voter who says they voted for Stein or didn’t vote due to Gaza. You’re acting like the pro-Israel supporters who call everyone antisemitic if you criticize Israel. No one should be blaming Muslims for this loss. Just like no one should be blaming their Latino neighbors who voted for Trump. But it’s fair game to have legitimate criticisms of political movements and ideologies those voters used as an excuse to vote for Trump or vote against Harris. Also, If the uncommitted vote and other Gaza supporters are so united against fascism like you say all should be, then they should have voted for Harris no matter what! But Instead these protesters actively campaigned against her and heckled her at every rally.
Your analysis is so inherently flawed. Your own breakdown of Stein votes runs counter to your claim that those votes wouldn’t have made a difference. The simple fact is on the democratic side, a small but sizable minority of pro-Palestinian protesters engaged in the ultimate form of political ignorance: becoming one issue voters. Moreover, you spend so much time trying to convince us all that one of the factors that contributed to a Trump victory was the fact a certain percentage of Americans sat out the election or voted third party due to a war in another country. None of your long litany of justifications negates the fact how ridiculous these pro-Palestinian protesters are who didn’t support Harris. They literally care more about the Palestinians than they care about their own country’s citizens. Even if you believe Israel is committing a genocide, how does not voting or castings protest vote help your cause? It doesn’t. Remember when these same protesters accused Biden of being to pro-Israel and was nicknamed Genocide Joe? Well, now they have Trump. I wonder if he will be amenable to their demands, or simply just disperse them with tear gas like he did the last group of protesters who challenged him.
A lot of factors went into Harris losing. So there is plenty of blame to go around. Yet to try and say the pro-Palestinian protest movement is completely blameless for her loss is ridiculous. They definitely made an impact. Every single rally she held, some self-righteous heckler would scream FREE GAZA at her, as if it’s within her power as VP to grant statehood to foreign nations. And then the clips would be played on a loop across YouTube by progressives who are more worried about the plight of the Palestinians than they are about their daughters not have equal rights in this country. I’m so tired of progressives doing these stupid virtue signaling when it comes to Gaza. You can condemn what Israel is doing, while also realizing Harris was the ONLY acceptable option to not only preserve our democracy but actually make headway on issues that directly impact AMERICANS.
So please get off your soapbox. Plenty of blame to go around. I hope you realize that screaming at Harris during rallies, and college students doing cable interviews about why they voted for Stein over Harris, isn’t endearing anyone to the pro-Palestinian cause. Climate activists used to act the same way: our issue is the only that matters, and screw everyone who doesn’t agree with us. But guess what? They don’t campaign that way anymore and climate activists are extremely successful at elections. Have you noticed that those in local congressional races who embraced the virtue signaling of the uncommitted movement like Cory Bush and Jamal Bowman no longer have jobs? That’s because voters are inherently turned off from a candidate who is centering their campaign around the plight of foreign population. This is even more egregious if this candidate is running for a more local race like congress or state representative. Why would a voter in Missouri cast their ballot for Cory Bush who spends more time talking about Israel and Gaza, instead of how she intends to increase teachers pay in her state, or help labor unions who are in negotiations, or discuss her thoughts on why women in our country shouldn’t have more or less constitutional rights due to what state you reside in. You know, issues that actually impact the lives of the vast majority of voters.
The message which resonated with me from the Harris/Walz campaign was that Democracy depends on us listening to, and defending each other, especially the most vulnerable. More important than policy positions, which were OK but could be better.
My union background is that you fight for the best contract possible, then fight for the next one to be better... That continues to be our task in the days ahead.
The future is not certain but all of our advances have come from perseverence, against the odds. Power and hate do not concede anything.

What Malcolm X said decades ago about wolves and foxes remains true this day. The old adage "scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds" never felt truer.
