The GOP Is The Party of White Supremacy
The last 48 hours alone have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the GOP is now the MAGA Party, and their only move is racism
The last 48 hours have provided irrefutable evidence that the Republican Party is now a full blown party of white supremacy. Not only are the below examples of racism from leading members of the Republican Party, those engaging in these acts of racism have faced little to no pushback from the Party at large. Instead, the racism goes on undeterred, and it puts our entire nation in grave danger. Let’s Address This.
Well documented anti-Haitian hatred has swept the MAGA Republican Party. National Political Reporter for Spectrum News, Taylor Popielarz, documented the dozens of schools, healthcare facilities, social service facilities, and even courthouses that were forced to shut down due to bomb threats emerging from Trump’s anti-Haitian propaganda. Springfield, OH was also forced to cancel its annual culture festival:
Ohio Governor DeWine (also a Republican) reports that Springfield received at least 33 bomb threats in the last week in the aftermath of Trump’s lies that Haitian immigrants are eating pets. Rather than retract his false statements, Donald Trump has continued to double down on this overt and grotesque racism. Vance, meanwhile, admits to making up the story but stands by his lie to “bring attention” to the immigration crisis.
2. Racist Slurs from National Right Wing Media
The anti-Haitian hatred has also revealed the disparaging ways right wing media revels in describing Black people. Rich Lowry’s interview this week on The Megyn Kelly Show exemplifies this point. Lowry is Editor-In-Chief of the National Review. During his interview with Kelly, he referred to Haitian migrants as “Haitian N-word.”
Neither Kelly nor Lowry bothered to acknowledge the racist slur, and proceeded as if nothing happened. You can see the clip for yourself here:
There are of course no calls from Republicans to disavow Lowry or Kelly, nor have either to date faced any consequences for this overt and vile racism.
3. Anti Muslim Hate at a Senate Hearing About Anti Muslim Hate
Moving from right wing media back to right wing government, on Tuesday MAGA Republicans attacked Dr. Maya Berry, an Arab American Muslim woman, with hateful propaganda. Most absurdly, they attacked Dr. Berry at a Senate hearing on the horrific hate crime murder of Palestinian American child Wadea Al-Fayoume. Senator Kennedy lied and accused an American Muslim Arab woman of being a terrorist sympathizer at a hearing about the murder of an American Muslim Arab child who was killed by a man radicalized with lies into thinking American Muslims are terrorist sympathizers. You can watch the full 5 minute exchange but as I tweeted, in summary the conversation went like this:
Senator Kennedy: Ms. Berry, Do you support Hamas?
Maya Berry: No, I do not. Hamas is a designated foreign terrorist organization.
Senator Kennedy: You just can't get yourself to say no, can you?
Maya Berry: I just said no and it's disappointing that you would ask an Arab American Muslim women such hateful questions.
Senator Kennedy: You should have your head in a bag!
This unhinged hate has consequences, as the murder of Wadea Al-Fayume proved. His murderer was Joseph Cuzba—a white man radicalized by white supremacist talking points that Arab Americans and Muslim Americans somehow support terrorism. Senator Kennedy did not seem to care about why the hearing on Wadea’s murder was necessary in the first place, and defaulted to that exact same bigotry. Kennedy has, of coursed, faced zero consequences for his racism and hate.
4. White Nationalists in Trump’s Entourage
The Southern Poverty Law Center reports that, “Loomer is an anti-Muslim bigot and conspiracy theorist who has collaborated with a range of hard-right political operatives, including Jack Posobiec, Mike Cernovich, Roger Stone and Nick Fuentes.” Yet, she’s happily part of Donald Trump’s presidential entourage, cozying up to the President while boasting with fellow white supremacist Nick Fuentes about “taking over” the Republican Party.
Likewise, Loomer’s response to the idea of Kamala Harris becoming President is that it would make the White House “smell like curry,” because of Harris’s Indian heritage. When asked directly about Loomer’s racist anti-Indian bigotry, JD Vance of course refused to condemn it—despite himself being married to an Indian American woman.
Conclusion
None of the above examples of GOP racism are from decades ago. They’re from literally days and hours ago. In short, the Republican Party is now the MAGA Party, and it is openly the party of white supremacy. And finally, if you don’t believe me that the GOP has devolved into the party of white supremacy, read this excerpt below. It is from an essay written by a prominent Republican back in 2012, before mainstream Trumpism took over the party. This prominent Republican wrote:
A significant part of Republican immigration policy centers on the possibility of deporting 12 million people (or ‘self-deporting’ them). Think about it: we conservatives (rightly) mistrust the government to efficiently administer business loans and regulate our food supply, yet we allegedly believe that it can deport millions of unregistered aliens. The notion fails to pass the laugh test. The same can be said for too much of the party’s platform. You can’t nominate people, like Sarah Palin, who scare away swing voters. You can’t actively alienate every growing bloc of the American electorate—Blacks, Latinos, the youth—and you can’t depend solely on the single shrinking bloc of the electorate—Whites. And yet, four years later, I am again forced to reflect on a party that nominated the worst kind of people, like Richard Mourdock, and tried to win an election by appealing only to White people.
Can you guess who this prominent Republican is? It’s none other than MAGA GOP Vice Presidential Candidate Senator JD Vance. The same man who referred to Trump as “America’s Hitler,” prior to becoming a Trump sycophant himself.
I don’t expect any politician or party to be perfect—but I do expect media to hold accountable those who engage in overt bigotry, racism, and violence, as the above examples demonstrate. It is a shame that legacy media continues to treat the Republican Party like a legitimate political organization, and not like the fascist cult it has become. And the danger is real and increasing. The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI report that white supremacy is the greatest threat to American security. The MAGA Republican Party’s embrace of that white supremacy accelerates that threat to new levels—and we are all worse off for it.

Thank you for putting this crisis into words. I feel like our country has forgotten the lessons of the 1960s and is repeating the same mistakes that were made then. Please keep up the great work that you are doing! We should not, will not and cannot allow these people to get away with their vile racism. They must be held accountable for their lies, actions and crimes!
I am glad that we (democrats) are not afraid of being part of a polarized nation. When the Republicans are so clearly anti-democratic, we have to be the polarized opposite party, and show that with pride. We should be the polar opposite! The threat of being taken over by autocracy with a Fascist nominee for president is a covert Russian invasion being accomplished internally by the Republican party. We must crush this internal threat at the ballot box, again and again and again, by voting for democrats up and down the ballot. For the next 20 years. No exceptions!
