I first learned the word "roti" as the Indonesian/Malay word for bread. I don't know how many other languages use that word for bread ("pan" or something similar is another word for bread used by multiple languages, mostly Latin-based, but even Japanese). I think I eventually came across the word "roti" somewhere for a kind of bread or bread product not associated with Indonesia or Malaysia. Maybe a kind of Indian bread? But if not for my familiarity with those 2 languages, I probably wouldn't have gotten your joke. Malaysian & Indonesian contain many words derived from many languages around the world, among them Hindi, Sanskrit & Arabic. Also Dutch, English, Portuguese, Latin & Mandarin among others.
I understand your frustration. It can seem, and sometimes be, impossible to have effective discourse with others on political topics. (Although, I would argue that genocide and female apartheid should not be considered political matters, but matters that reflect one's morals and humanity.) Throughout all of this hatred and destruction, I feel I must keep hope and keep trying. After all, someone might not initially listen to what my thoughts are, but I might have planted a seed from which empathy and understanding will grow.
