Great article highlighting the disparities of rights between men and women in the great United States of America. Thank you for naming the injustices and inequality.

Thank you for this article. It really means a lot when men step up for women's rights. Thank you, thank you for this. Women's fight for equality has taken far too long, and there is still so much pushback. And as a white woman I am also trying to be very mindful that voices of women of color are often left behind and must be more front and center, now than ever before. I really care to see that ALL women are treated with equality, equity and respect and I think white women have to be more intentional and committed to help carve out space, to listen to, and give respect to voices of women of color.

And with the SAVE act, Congress is hoping to take away the votes of the roughly 80% of women who changed their names when we married, so our birth certificates will not prove our citizenship for voting purposes.

Somebody should also tell GOP men that the solution to childhood poverty in America is not to force women to stay married to abusive spouses. The solution is better wages, universal health care and access to abortion services. Let's throw in DV and outmoded thinking that says women either bring it on, are exaggerating the threat, or are lying. (I just watched the new Netflix documentary on the murder of Gabby Petito. Men, especially, need to see it, particularly the scene where the police pull the van over. Gabby's crying, has a bruise on her arm and an eyewitness had told the cops that they'd seen Brian Laundrie slapping her. The cop and his partner both decide that Laundrie was the victim and Gabby was the "aggressor" and got him a free hotel room whil she had to sleep alone in the van.) As in cases of sexual assault, women are often not believed.

Raised by my single mother in the 1950’s, my father having been killed during the Korean War, I truly appreciate this post. She worked as a secretary, providing my sister and I with everything we needed, as well as buying a house for her parents when they lost their farm. This was all during times when women had few rights, and virtually no opportunities for advancement.

It is high time we elected a woman as President of the US! That will hopefully bring forward the further advances in women’s’ rights that, as you have clearly stated, are long overdue (say, from the very beginning of time)! I am sure the world would have been a much better place than what it has become under the predominant rule of men.

Yet just any woman will not do. One like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is not afraid to speak the whole truth. Kamala Harris could have been that woman but she did not speak the whole truth about numerous important issues, such as Israel’s apartheid in Gaza, and Biden’s cognitive deterioration.

Thank you! Reading your list of when we hit these particular milestones makes me mad all over again— and you didn’t even mention our omission from much health research, despite the considerable health challenges that come with being born in a female body.

Yeah it’s just a snapshot. So much I left out for the sake of practicality. Books have been and continue to be written about these injustices. I’m hopeful this at least provided more context than most men are used to seeing.

When any person is refused the opportunity to reach their potential, we all lose what might have been. Anti-abortionists use this argument in defence of their cause, but make no effort to support or care for people after they are born and show no regard for the girls and women whose lives are derailed or lost by uninformed interference in their medical condition. When we fight against discrimination, we are not granting a favour, we are fighting for a better world for all of us. Thank you for the work you do.

Thank you. Thank you also on behalf my sisters, daughters, nieces, and granddaughters. In our paternalistic world, the words of men on this topic will certainly have more impact than anything a woman could say. We need men like you to speak up and I’m sincerely appreciative that you did.

*1776: That founding statement included in the document the 2nd Continental Congress charged the Committee of Five to produce and which committee member John Adams (of the tone-deaf reply to his wife Abigail’s “Remember the Ladies” letter, rejecting her appeal out of hand) led the committee to assign Thomas Jefferson to draft…

It’s not just the positions we hold, but what we’re allowed to wear also. When religions and men-or anyone, for that matter-dictate these choices, they are wrong.

It’s why we absolutely need separation of religion and state. Fused together it’s a recipe for fascism and autocracy.

Agreed. For me, it’s one step further: teach all children secularism, common sense, analytical thinking.
