What would you say to somebody who doesn’t want white people (women, in this case) to benefit from discrimination against Asians, Jews, etc., who are disproportionately and negatively impacted by affirmative action?

I shouldn’t take the place of anybody else because of my skin color, white or otherwise.

Qasim, these are helpful tactics and talking points, but it is difficult to penetrate the arrogant Conservative belief that THEY are right and YOU are wrong! Their preconceived notions trump (sorry!)

your logic every time! You are 'Fake News'! This is just their desperate, last-ditch attempt to hold on to power before White folks become a minority majority in about 10 more years.

Of course it's about accepting unqualified people, a "fair" system would select based on intelligence and conscientiousness rather than race. The courts have banned IQ testing for hiring so that's obviously not the purpose. I find this explanation as to why my family should have less opportunities pretty unconvincing.

Can we explain things to conservatives? It’s like trying to remove WMDs from the rubble we left in Baghdad. The future is being destroyed with savagery,

not logic, the patriarchal model of compassionate conservatism.

I come from a conservative background, but have learned to listen to people's stories. Over time, I have developed more and more interest in issues that hurt people of color. But it has taken me something like 20 years to come to a willingness to listen.

Thank you Crescenda for sharing! This gives me a better perspective.

I'd say that while one can certainly find find exceptions, the goal of AA is to uncover true merit that may be obscured by past or present discrimination. And this needs to be explained to Progressives as much as to "conservatives."
