This angers me to my core and beyond. As a father of 4 daughters, I can't imagine what I would do if this happened to one of them. My wife was an L/D nurse for 10+ years while serving in the Air Force. She then went on to become a WHNP. She has written research papers on the alarming rates of black and brown infant mortality. She is now the director of Women's services at the native hospital where we live. She is keenly aware of how racism plays into all things health care. She is white, and I'm black. We have been married for almost 20 years. We have moved no less than 8 times, and unfortunately, she's seen racism play out in her workplace, especially in the Mother/Baby areas. She no longer displays pics of us (our family) after I asked her to wait at least 1year before doing so. She soon learned that doing this allowed her to be involved in conversations and comments from other coworkers and find out how they felt about POC. Some of the things she has seen and heard are worthy of a book, movie, or investigation. Now that she is in a leadership position, she is trying to make positive changes, but wow, what an uphill battle.
I'm not going to be your 388th like because this is to sick to like. I am reeling from hospitals being blown up and hospitals blowing up caring for people who are being blown up in the hospitals that do care for them. Where is your Allah, Mr. Rashid, where is anyone's God?
I was a believer for many years, but I think such Gods shouldn't have the courage to face a humanity that could poke their fingers at these gods and proclaim , "j'accuse."
I’m a Caucasian RN in the South. It took three years, but the first charge nurse I worked under blatantly admitted to me she was racist. This was during the first Trump administration. To have that happen in this profession changed my Worldview and set the tone for my nursing career. It’s real, it’s there. I’m over it!
Your article was well written; your thoughts well organized; your research thorough; and your communication skills Exemplary. Your passion for the future of humanity is inspirational. I've saved and shared. God speed!
68,000 preventable deaths in hospitals per year - that's equivalent to a commercial jet crashing every day. It doesn't happen because of the FAA, because airline crashes make the news. and because airlines have a financial interest in not being known as The Company Whose Planes Keep Crashing All The Time. But injured patients die a solitary death and their families can easily be given a song and dance by the hospital involved. Most people also have little choice about what hospital to go to when they need one, especially in rural areas.
Too horrid to contemplate. Is this a hate crime or that of a deranged individual. The hospital has suppressed this because they were black babies? The hospital should be shut down with immediate effect
ERIN you racist cunt may somebody do to you what you did to those babies. Karma just told me to hold her beer. She's coming for you Erin and when you go to prison she'll serve it up to ya ice cold.
I read about this case yesterday 1/6/25...She could have caused a death of a newborn child. A twin...both has broken bones. The one didn't survive. Of course they were black...
Before, in school, we learnt that racism is not okay and that it once affected humanity terribly. But right now, humans are turning into monsters!!! Imagine, they are not even leaving babies alone!!!
Unfortunately, it’s not the first story I’ve heard about a deranged nurse, although this one might be racially motivated. So, I would be interested in knowing if the only victims this nurse had were Black and Native, or there were White babies abused in her care as well? The actions of the hospital were nothing short of criminal.
As someone who watches crime shows continually (and is a civilian in law enforcement), I have heard too many stories about nurses being serial killers, nannies abusing children, home care attendants killing the elderly, and parents who had Munchausen syndrome by Proxy. I know several cases of doctors who killed their wives or others. But, aberrations happen in every profession. One of the most prolific arsonists in American history was a firefighter. We had two cops who were killers for the Mafia. It’s all terrifying.
But in healthcare, one of the hardest things about being your own advocate, is that at any age, if you have any sort of mental or physical impairment, it’s impossible to watch out for yourself. It’s like being in an airplane -- you are at the mercy of the pilot. I am so thankful for all the good experiences I have had in surgery. I shattered my ankle this past February and had to spend days in the hospital after surgery, and spent more than six months locked inside my apartment. I got by with the help of good friends, a great building staff, and physical therapists. It took almost the entire year to be able to walk again, but everyone who worked on me, and with me, did a great job. I didn’t have the same luck with my recent cataract surgery, but I’m still dealing with it. But for so many people it goes so badly. All of life, let alone healthcare, is a crap shoot. Oh, these poor babies and their poor parents! What a nightmare. God help us all!
WHAT KIND OF MONSTER HURTS AN INNOCENT BABY? Her bones need to be broken and ground up like a trash compactor! Just leave me alone with her for 5 minutes! I hope her ass rots in jail and Mookie makes Dumplings out of her fat, disgusting body!
I speak here as a retired BSN who spent 49 years in the healthcare industry. Hospital Administrators first priority is NOT safety. It’s scandal control. They post lofty mission statements which are not followed due to profit priorities. In Illinois there are no safeguards that dictate staffing ratios. Those decisions are made by administrators that have little or no bedside care experience. The RNs have the same responsibilities regardless of how many patients who are assigned to them. The young nurse who committed these atrocities should have been immediately placed on leave until a deep dive into these incidents was conducted by Safety Control. I want to know why she was ever allowed to practice nursing again. Why wasn’t her nursing license revoked? The bottom line for hospitals is how to protect their reputations. This series of incidents should lead to a thorough investigation and follow up with strong safeguards for nursing staff who may see something but fear to say something!
Your insight as a BSN with nearly five decades of experience is invaluable, thank you for sharing it. You’re absolutely right that administrators often prioritize image over safety, leaving RNs to carry the weight of understaffing and inadequate safeguards. The failure to revoke this nurse’s license immediately is appalling and highlights systemic flaws. How do you think we can empower nurses to speak out without fear and demand the safeguards the profession so desperately needs?
We need Safe staffing ratios mandated by State Health Departments (like California) and Nursing Unions in Hospitals! Right now nurses who speak out are quickly blackballed and isolated if not terminated. Any nurse in my hospital who mentioned the word “Union” was pressured into silence or resignation. Any family member who has a family member in the hospital should find out how many patients are assigned to that nurse and demand to speak with Hospital Administrators if they are concerned about quality of care.
You’re absolutely right, safe staffing ratios aren’t just a necessity; they’re a matter of life and death. As a combat medic currently in service, I know what it means to work under pressure, but even in the chaos of a battlefield, we’re never left without the proper support to save lives. It’s appalling that hospitals, places meant for healing, expect nurses to juggle impossible patient loads while silencing those who advocate for change. The fear of retaliation is real, and it’s tragic that the word ‘union’ is treated like a threat when it could be a solution. Families absolutely need to stand up for their loved ones, but it shouldn’t take fighting tooth and nail to ensure safe, quality care. Thank you for speaking out, this is a battle we must fight for nurses, patients, and everyone who relies on them.
Don’t mean to be negative, but I’m going to be negative. This is what humans do in settings that allow it. Why do they allow it? They don’t want a bad image. Many places where people work permit things like this to occur, although in different ways. When it is brought to public attention, they then lie about it. Even if it goes to trial, you will read that the person who brought charges was found dead in his vehicle at the courthouse. Evidently suicide. We all knew that was a lie. It goes on all of the time.

Never leave a family member alone in the hospital. Someone should be there 24/7.

I don’t believe in hell, but if there is one, she should go now!
