Wow! Great observation. In reading further, I’m looking through your eyes, and seeing through the eyes of others. In a sense, I feel damned.

Anyone who feels the need to justify or create a space of understanding for either themselves or White women upon reading this needs to take a deep look within themselves and the society in which they live. Dr. Cadet's words must be deeply listened to and honored. If hearing what she has to say causes you to bristle, even just a little bit, that's a sign you need to read this again and again and find more such literature until it sinks in.

"White supremacy," or "male supremacy," or "tall people supremacy," or "good-looking people supremacy" is a thing. For whatever reasons, people are drawn to Caucasians, or men, or tall people, or good-looking people, as if they were superior, or had anything to do with the fact that they're Caucasian, or male, or tall, or good-looking. There's certainly no reason to hold against them these characteristics. But they should be very aware of their unearned advantages, and if anything, be humble about them, and always conscious about giving full respect and even deference to people who do not happen to have these unearned advantages. Clearly, that mostly doesn't happen. It's the old joke about the person who was born on third base, and thought he hit a triple.

I & all my white girlfriends are voting for Kamala but I get your point. There are WAY too many white women afraid of losing their white privilege. Now address all those Black & Brown men voting for the worlds biggest racist!

"All those"? This narrative is way overblown and suspect. The numbers suppoedly doing so,, even if true, would barely be a glitch in the overall electorate. And the need for you to even mention that also exemplifies what Mr Rashid says about bristling, even a little bit.

A whole lot of white women did not vote for Trump too- most of us voted for Hillary. I’m pretty sure. While I agree white supremacy is all around, I cannot imagine putting whiteness above womanhood ever. Being black, this may be harder to understand but some of us don’t see color when we look in the mirror. That anlone sounds like a privilege but it’s also true. I understand society has constructs that give different people different experiences but let us not condemn groups - here white women- as though they are homogeneous either. Women are under attack from republicans and so called Christians and don’t need to be under attack by friendly fire. Haven’t read the book but look forward to it so this is a general view from the beginning question of remembering what white women did. I am a woman that sure looks white and I didn’t do that. Just sayin’.

I’m going to pass this along as a record of my digital footprint because in addition to E. Cheney’s book, I plan to read this one. I am interested in the subject and YOU passed it along.

Substack.

I’ll subscribe when I can afford to do so.
