“NO WAY TO PREVENT THIS” SAYS ONLY NATION WHERE THIS REGULARLY HAPPENS.

The author seems off the charts ignorant on existing gun laws. Maybe educate yourself a bit before writing on a subject you know little about.

This is why I support your work. It is truly sad that politicians are bought and sold daily and are fiddling while people are dying in mass shootings. The corporate media is highly complicit. Gun violence needs to stop. Thoughts and prayers do absolutely nothing to prevent gun violence from happening. Thanks for this detailed article. I know the so called republicans will not listen, so they need to be voted out and replaced by people who will listen.

Eminently useful!

Thanks for this thoughtful, informative, and much needed commentary on an American public health and safety crisis. The 2nd Amendment and abortion have sadly and ironically been politically manipulated with propagandized narratives for decades to secure voting coalitions. Here’s a piece I felt compelled to write after a previous mass shooting.

lol. Your article doesn’t have any value or validity whatsoever on the subject. Guns are not the number one cause of death for teenagers. I’d take a stats course before spouting off next time.

Your research is impeccable. Thank you for your contributions.

They have so many myths! The ones about rights, the constitution, Federalist Papers are false and ridiculous. Then the analogies to all weapons--any gun is the same as any other gun. Then the ones about safety, and the essental need...but there are so many and they are all so dumb.

The gun lobby propaganda was one of the first major attempts to get people to live in an alternate reality (full of lies), and reject basic things like 'the preservation of human life and community safety.' It made the USA a country of would-be vigilantes.

Excellent piece. Thanks for giving short, clear responses to gun rights supporters inane arguments.

"A system that allows such would be terrorists to acquire weapons of mass murder so easily is a broken and unjust system."

The NRA has gained unprecedented leverage over politicians who have the ability to create or veto gun control legislation.

I honestly believe that some of the hardcore pro-Second Amendment, anti-gun-control politicians would adjust their stances if they weren't subject to a combination of receiving funds from the NRA while also having the threat of NRA-funded smear campaigns to get them voted out of office. This is a case of an outside special interest hijacking the autonomy of the American people.

As so many people like Qasim and others point out, gun control legislation is NOT ACTUALLY a partisan issue. Everyone wants to feel safe from gun violence. NO ONE wants gun violence to happen at schools. Everyone would be well-served by basic, common-sense gun control laws like background checks and red flag monitoring.

System reform can start with changing campaign finance laws and more restrictions on lobbying.

Enforce the existing laws. You provide no solution whatsoever

That's your opinion.

What is a solution you propose to help end mass shootings?

The "if only we could fix mental health" is so ableist and racist it makes my head spin. That's not how humans work. Mental health isn't something you can "fix" and who would get to set the standards for what normal means? (That's a rhetorical question - it would be determined by white males, which is how it works now.)

We need mental health support and resources in abundance. Not to fix anything, but to meet mental health needs from a place of systemic love and care.

The 2nd amendment was passed when US government was two or three years old. It says the federal government cannot disarm the state malitias. The southern states needed an armed force to control their slaves. To say A2 gives individuals the right to an AR-15 is fraudulent.

One of the biggest lies humans tell themselves is: it shouldn’t be the way it is but there’s nothing I can do about it.
