I thought Trump gaslit us. He turns out to have been a complete amateur. The newspapers and Biden administration have turned reality completely upside down. No respect for US or international law, no respect for basic human rights, or those that try to protect human rights, no respect for US citizens—the majority of whom have not been fooled, no respect for the UN, no respect for most of the world, no respect for freedom of speech and association, and no respect for the truth.

I used to tell students that these essential things mattered to almost everyone, and the flouting of them was exceptional, and we can and should fight for them. I don’t know what to tell them now. I don’t want them to become cynical. That’s the worst stance for their future. But the very ground beneath our feet has been hollowed out by all our political institutions, and they flushed everything basic to morality down the toilet. So do we just explain what we might have had, and what we have completely lost? Or do we just say ‘most of the world understands these ideas, and the USA no longer does.’

I just had a thought inspired by the bill just passed in the House, supported by some Democrats along with virtually all Republicans, which allows the government to destroy any non-profit group or organization that opposes the government by accusing them of "terrorism". This of course would be 1 of the first steps in launching fascism in America. My thought was that non-profit groups are practically the only institutions recently that have stimulated positive change in our government & society. Without them & their drives to enact policies to improve our country, we'd be in a far worse state than we are now. And that is what Trump & his corporate benefactors can't tolerate. Basically all the people & organizations we follow & support that advocate for good things for America would be in peril. I suppose if this bill passes the Senate, too, Biden would veto it, but I can't be sure.

And sadly, I don’t think we can count on Biden for much. If AIPAC wants it, he is very likely to let it happen. And it’s mostly going through at the behest of AIPAC. 55 Jewish groups rejected it. But AIPAC outweighs them all.

I know. 💔 They are throttling the citizens a la an authoritarian state. Following the Orban model. This is what he did. And Democrats have gone along with it. This is a time where people are displaying their cravenness.

You're right.

I had conversations with some leftists who based mainly on this administration's support of Israel in their war had decided not to vote for Kamala. I made the point that Trump was worse on this & every other issue, so at least if they live in a swing state, please vote for Kamala, but then right after the election start building a coalition of progressives to compete with the corporatist Duopoly, especially if Harris doesn't properly respond to the demands of the people.

Well, it appears that she nor any other Democrat with any power is resisting on behalf of the people the takeover by the ineligible fascist candidate. So I think it's imperative that a truly progressive party or coalition of parties be promptly formed that will really fight for democracy & the common good.

I am deeply disturbed by President Biden‘s actions, and this will absolutely have a very negative impact on his legacy. Both Putin and Netanyahu are war criminals; it makes no sense whatsoever to help one continue committing war crimes, and then work tirelessly to prevent the other one from doing so.

Indiscriminate fire on a civilian neighborhood in an urban environment IS an act of TERRORISM. … no matter how ya try to dice it.

Who is anybody to wreak this level of psychotic behavior on a population? Bibi lost his god-damned mind. Snitch gotta go.

And what is Biden doing? … Clearly Abbas will never get control. It’s all bull 🐂 💩

Can you produce a color coded Global map showing all the countries where Netanyahu and Gallant cannot travel too as they will be arrested. Americans need to see this! Ty

“Meanwhile, the party’s more moderate wing, wary of alienating key voting blocs or geopolitical allies, continues to back Biden’s long standing support for Israel.”

This is why we depart forever the Democratic Party. (And in doing so we reject the MAGA-possessed Republican Party, as well.)

What about Putin and Trump

Expand full comment

I recall them doing the same to Putin a couple years ago. Trump not yet, but I'm pretty sure he'll make himself worthy of arrest by the ICC soon enough.

Trump will be worse. That was a good reason not to vote for Trump, but it doesn't excuse Biden's conduct. I am a huge Biden supporter in other areas, but this genocide will be his legacy.

That & his failure to bring Trump & other Republicans to justice for their traitorous acts, which have led us to the likely fascist control by Trump & MAGA.

We are still working on him and Harris to use whatever means she has to save us from the hostile takeover over.

I wonder about the passivity that the Arab nations around Israel are showing. Do they really believe all Palestinians are Hamas? Are they intimidated? Clearly they don’t care about the destruction. Not a word of indignation from them is reaching America.

Or does their religion say “everything (including this) is God’s will”? And reason that interfering would be going against God? Surely not.

That is curious. Many years ago they'd be outraged & threatening Israel. Now they're complacent, apparently because they view Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. as sources of instability to the region & threats to their own regimes, but Israel certainly has not brought stability to the region.

Maybe the Saudis see this all as bad for Iran and are waiting it out so they can control the region.

It's hard to say. Like Israel, Saudi Arabia has generally been treated favorably by virtually every US administration, but particularly by Bush & Trump. Trump likes Saudi Arabia & hates Iran (for now, anyway), but he kowtows to Putin, & Iran is, along with North Korea [with whom after threatening each other with annihilation, Trump & their leader KJU started exchanging "love letters" (which is why, you never can be sure Trump's feelings about a person or country will remain constant)], has been Russia's most faithful ally, so would Trump want to risk drawing Putin's ire? It's very risky to put your bets on Trump.

That’s an excellent point. But alliances are changing fast now. Who knows where we’ll end up. Let’s hope nothing that increases the odds of war between everyone scrambling for dominance.

I have been in touch with many in Gaza over the last year, giving all my spare $$ to them. They are starving, ill (and in need of medication) drowning like rats in their tent and hanging on by a thread of hope. They need winter clothes, tarps, etc. I am finally HERE as a paid subscriber and grateful for your commitment to the truth!! I've been reading your articles for months, Qasim.

I pray the ICJ arrest warrants and the commitment of so many countries to honor them, marks a turning of tide for Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. Israel's evil is now exposed, it is becoming a pariah state: all WELL deserved. I pray for a ceasefire and for aid allowed into Gaza. I pray for my friends there.

Grateful for your trust and support, Fran. The evil acts of Netanyahu cannot continue unabated, and I’m hopeful he sees some measure of accountability at the ICC. Thank you for your work to support innocent Palestinians suffering horrific genocide.

🙏 I had to take some kind of positive action, as the rage and grief were eating me up. And yes, it is the ICC, not the ICJ, that issued these warrants. I pray the latter does not take forever to confirm what we can all see: Genocide in the name of the ethnic cleansing.

As Caitlin Johnstone pointed out weeks ago, these continued claims of "antisemitism" for actions that are anti-genocide will only serve in the long tlrun to conflate Judaism with perpetrators of genocide, leading to increased *actual* antisemitism. Israel is hurting the global Jewish community.

Bro, this makes how many warrants now? It's all a bunch of bullshit at a dog and pony show.. nobody in any kind of real power is going to stop this shit until the Palestinian people are extinct. If they haven't made that abundantly clear to everyone by now, then some people need a new lens to look through.

The very fact that Netanyahu has a warrant out for his arrest for crimes against humanity is a big deal. Name the other countries that pretend to have democracies that also have their leaders charged with crimes against humanity. It's definitely not enough, but it's more than just a dog and pony show.
