One must also remember the tragedy that happened because one modern-day “liberal" Associate Justice did not retire and then passed away during a Republican presidency.

MILLIONS of Americans are terrified of Project 2025 plans to overturn our Democracy, subsume our civil rights and ignore the US Constitution. Would it be possible to declare the Heritage Foundation a terrorist organization with their Project 2025 plans TO:

Privatize Medicare, Medicaid (applying capped benefits) and likely Social Security. This is about 50% of US budget

Outlaw Mifepristone

National ban or near ban on abortions

50,000 non-partisan civil servants must swear loyalty to Trump or be replaced

Allow drilling on Federal Lands

Withdraw from NATO

Use FCC to silence media

Dissolve Affordable Care Act

Dissolve EPA

Dissolve or reorganize

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), deny climate change

Dept of Homeland Security

Dept of Education

Dept of Commerce

Dept of Energy

Dept of Health and Human Services

Dept of Justice

Perhaps with SCOTUS’s recent revelation that the US President enjoys presidential immunity, President Biden could address this in an Executive Order…?

Is SCOTUS a terrorist organization?

SCOTUS is working on the behest of Project 2025, and openly fascist initiative. That’s why we need urgent reform all the more.

Biden is partially responsible for Clarence Thomas being on the Court. I'm not sure I want him appointing another four justices. And if the Court is expanded, wouldn't the next Republican president be able to appoint another four? And so on until we have 385 Supreme Court Justices?

I am also not in favor of term limits. If you have someone good, like Senator Bernie Sanders, or Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor, I don't want them termed out. They are two of the few people I deem irreplaceable.

I'm glad of AOC's articles of impeachment against Thomas and Alito. I understand that this is unlikely to happen, but glad of it anyway. It's possible to get rid of corrupt people.

The idea that we are saved by individual people and not the institution is a problem. Term limits ensure new justices reflective of the will of the people and consistent progress. Likewise, expanding the court, enforcing a meaningful ethics requirement, and giving it an enforcement mechanism protects our democracy.

And that's what it'll mean to ensure future Republicans cannot just arbitrarily expand the court once more. Once we have proper representation in the Court system, the decisions they make will further enhance democracy by increasing voter access, decreasing corporate corruption and influence, and increasing ethical accountability. By decreasing corruption and increasing the representation of the people, we ensure future expansions, should they happen (and they probably should eventually) are at the result of the will of the American people, not that of dark money PACs and corporations.

SCOTUS must be expanded to 13.

Expand full comment

Sure. First one side does it, then the other side does it, then the other side does it…and on an on. We will end up with a Supreme Court as large as the Star Wars congress.

The Supreme Court expanded to 9 in the 19th century to mirror the 9 circuit courts the U S. had at the time. We now have 13 circuit courts. The U.S. is a different country in 2024.

I said a while back that we should expand the SCOTUS to 13 to match the number of Federal districts. The problem is that it will never get through the Senate because you need 60 votes!

That’s true. Unless we abolish the Jim Crow filibuster and make it happen.

Well done, Rashid, as usual. Only #FascistGOP will argue with any of this. #CorruptSCOTUS #ExpandTheCourt

He absolutely should. I'm frustrated that he refuses to.

Isn't better that it not be expanded before a possible Trump presidency?
