Border Patrol has to be a magnet for pedophiles. It makes me sick to think what a goddamn free for all it must have been when the POLICY of this government was to separate children from their parents. What was worse was that no one seemed very concerned about it. This is a sick country that desperately needs to a re-boot.
Trouble is, if ppl don't come here to read this, where else do they go? I don't see anybody talking about this critical issue.
I imagine there are some really depraved rapists within our border patrol law enforcement groups!! Men who know how much immigrants are hated + these women (& children) are already the most vulnerable and desperate...that is a recipe for an on-going crisis, unchecked.
How much abuse of immigrants AREN'T we hearing about?
We have to get standards in hiring that look at the propensity for violence, views on equality of people, and to check for personality disorders and other problems identified in the DSM for mental illnesses. We need to do this for all law enforcement everywhere, not just training but weeding out! This is beyond unacceptable and if 5000 reported abuse, we know there is much more. We need law enforcement officers and we need to be able to trust them! Thanks for this vital reporting.
If what we know of history is true, it appears there has never been a time when men of any caste, class, religion, tribe, socioeconomic status have not felt free to assault, abuse, rape, torture or kill women or children with the expectation of impunity. Both were, for millennia, considered chattel, property of the paternal household head to do as he pleased with his property. What we don't know is how many of them participated in this "sport". We also don't know for sure how many men continue to operate in this way, despite all the new criminal investigative tools at our disposal, because their gut instinct is they are most likely to escape prosecution. Is this the arrogance that most men seem to absorb from an evolutionary history of male physical superiority, more evidence of the adolescent expectation of immortality, or just canny recognition that the odds are with them as long as males dominate governance, law enforcement and most of the levers of power, be it financial, military, medical, ad nauseam.
It is only recently that we have begun to consider this history and its modern iterations as human rights offenses, crimes against femininity and to finally employ the term femicide, as opposed to the unimportant illegitimate cousin of homicide.
On of the more recent and well publicized examples is the case of the southern lawyer, embezzler, and fraudster, the dishonorable Murdaugh, convicted of murdering his wife and one of his sons, to prevent them from testifying against him as his criminal empire started to collapse. He, of course, disputes the conviction and is appealing. Being white in a deeply white supremacist part of the Southern states he might just prevail, unless the notoriously in-ept southern law enforcement and judicial establishments actually make a serious effort to uncover irrefutable evidence. He is a shining example of the entitled and infallible male.
If the pundits are right and a 50 year concerted effort has been made to restore white males to the undisputed top of the US pyramid we are finally seeing the underpinnings of the icebergs that have sustained American males against the ever encroaching, eroding oceanic waves that threaten to overwhelm them. The undersides of those icebergs are ugly to behold.
Thank you Quasim. We can channel our rage by supporting the human rights NGOs known as the Kino Border Initiative (KBI) and Advocacy for Human Rights in America (WOLA), as well as the wonderful ACLU which consistently and successfully prosecutes these cases. We can also write to the President, V-Pres in droves to demand justice and needed changes to legislation and regulations.
The outrage people justifiably feel is ultimately best addressed with prevention and then accountability in prison for those who commit these heinous crimes.
Abusive systems restrict the ability of victims to move; and spend media capital on converting the victim to an enemy that the corporate state can incarcerate. Despite movement being the only chance of survival, from gangs, cartels now largely corporate, corporate and state death squads, police, and prisons the brutality of borders has been Democrat and Republican business as usual for centuries in the Caribbean and Central America primarily because of the ending of slavery in Haiti, Cuba, and Mexico that lead to inclusion the slave state of Texas.
By the way, you made one omission. In the paragraph that begins "And where is the outrage?," you used quotes for the word "looks." But you also needed quotes for the next word: "American." What does an "American" look like?

Is many Americans still religious ???
They need a horrified button.

IDK about "underpinnings," being the the most accurate description of white male superiority & entitlement coming from underneath their rocks.
It's sheer depravity that one whole political tribe has blessed & plans to indulge even more than ever.
There won’t be any outrage because she isn’t white.
I am very glad to be with you here Qasim.
❤️✊🏽
Horrible people. Why is this allowed to continue.

Exactly, Gail because nothing will ever change unless and until it's a demand made by The People.
Yes well said, and continue to pressure our electeds to stop these fascist policies.
Big change is needed to return to humanitarian values in American society
....and I'm sorry, can't we use the two shiny bullets method on these horrible terrible waste of oxygen humans? #doubletap

I wanted to share this to my FB page but the thumbnail pic shows Trump on a podium and that pic didn't sit well with me. Keep up the good work Qasim.
You say “his story of facing some consequence is by no means the exception…
You mean either that it IS the exception or “is by no means the RULE.”
Yes, good catch. Done. Thank you.
Yet another, if tragic and infuriating, post.
